About Kaylee

I tend to only make this face while waiting for food to arrive.

Get to know my work:

Hi, I’m Kaylee. I’m currently working as an investigative reporter with InvestigateWest, a nonprofit news outlet that covers the Pacific Northwest. I focus primarily on stories connected to labor, health care and young people. Find all my stories here, including how to get in touch with me with a story tip.

My journalistic career has led me through a wide range of topics and all over the world. My first front page story focused on egg shortages in Southern Oregon. I’ve interviewed Sri Lankan villagers in their rice paddies about drought. And I’ve spotlighted harm, injustices and better ways forward up and down the West Coast. I strive to bring these qualities to this complex, essential work:

  • humble, dogged reporting

  • thoughtful and intentional presentation

  • transparency and follow-up with engaged readers and sources

Get to know me:

I’m a youngest daughter. I have been a writer since childhood. Except for a recent stint in California, I’ve lived in Oregon almost all my life. This state has given me a lot, and there’s no other true home for me.

Most of me doesn’t fit into one box. I’m an ambivert, a homebody who hates routine. If I’m staying in, I might be playing the saxophone, working on a short story or rewatching an episode of The West Wing. My favorite ways to spend time outside are playing tennis, backpacking or surfing.
